Image Analysis

The theme of my secondseries is based on the idea of the mental illness dissociation and how it feels to experience a dissociative episode. Incorporating shadows, the feeling of being trapped in your own mind and unreal surroundings.

Image 1:

The main subject of this image is centered in the frame to draw the eye to the centre of the back.

The spine acts as the leading line up to the models head.

I have created shadows on the subjects back, hands ripping her back apart but they are placed in such a way as to appear as a ribcage projected on her back as a skeleton is usually used to convey the idea of death or impending death,  this is symbolic of the mental anguish associated with this illness and how it can drive the sufferers to such extremes as to commit suicide.

The line of the floor lines up with the centre of the fingers on the models back again drawing the focus to the centre of the image.

Like my artist model  Antonio Palemirini I have used high contrast and long exposures in low light to create the mysterious blurry effect and uncertainty of the subjects idenity and feelings. I also edited in noise to replicate the old feel of Antonio Paleirini's images,

Image 2

I have used high contrast and long exposure influenced by my artist model to create the blur effect which distorts the subjects face tieing into my first series theme of loss of identity. The lighting I have used is also from my first series artist model Jerry Ulsemann with high contrast studio side lighting to draw attention to the subject.

The model is centred in the frame which further draws the eye to the main subject.

Image 3

I have disorted this image to draw attention to the centre of the image where the shadows are reaching for the subketcs head. because shadows and darkness are linked with evil it shows how the mental illness is taunting the vistim. The distortion can also be a symptom of the illness where people experience the world around them changing size and shape.

The blur and lighting is influenced by my artist model.

Image 4

I have used a narrow depth of field in this image to blur out the subjects face and draw attention to the hands, It was inspired by my artist model Antonio Palemirini and how he uses blurring effects in his images. again to hint at the idea of loss of identity.

The hands against the glass symbolise being trapped very similar to my first series. I have used the rule of thirds in this image, the subjects face  in the center third and the hands on either side becuase it looks aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
